Have you ever written a check for a shopping purchase and the clerk hands you back the check? The clerk has used the information on your check to convert the payment request to an electronic format. The amount of the check will be deducted from your account as usual but probably sooner than it would have if the paper check had been used. This new transaction is called Electronic Check Conversion or "E-check".
